Production and Delivery of District Heating Substations for Mirgorod, Ukraine
The city of Mirgorod is implementing a phased program to renew the district heating infrastructure in the Aviamistechko residential area.
Client:
Myrgorodteploenergo
Location:
Mirgorod, Ukraine
Project year:
2017
Project summary
The project challenges included outdated building components, higher technological losses and limited possibilities for accurate metering. The goal: more efficient heat consumption, reduction of losses and natural gas consumption, as well as increased transparency by measuring the actual energy delivered at the building level.
Scope and solution
Under a contract signed in September 2017, Dalsia (former Brunata) delivered 17 district heating substations as part of the network modernization:
6 stations for heating + domestic hot water (DHW);
11 stations for heating only.
The scope included equipment delivery, installation supervision, commissioning activities and training of the operational staff. The configurations were selected according to the actual heat loads and functional requirements of the buildings, with priority given to fast response, stable hydraulics and easy maintenance.
Implementation
The project was implemented in stages to limit interruptions for end users. For each building, the following were performed:
hydraulic tests;
balancing of secondary circuits and adjustment of regulators;
functional tests of protections and automation;
acceptance tests before final commissioning.
In parallel, training was conducted for the operator teams - start/stop procedures, parameter monitoring, basic diagnostics and reporting.
Results and expected effect
More efficient heat consumption at the building level thanks to precise temperature regulation.
Reduced technological losses and lower natural gas consumption due to optimized modes.
Reporting based on actually measured energy, which increases transparency and creates incentives for additional energy efficiency measures by owners and managers.
More reliable heat supply and higher comfort for residents, with faster response to deviations.
Key data
17 district heating substations: 6 for heating+DHW, 11 for heating only
Scope: supply → installation supervision → commissioning → training
Focus: efficiency, accountability, reduced losses and gas
Funding and program
The project is part of the DemoUkrainaDH initiatives - a program of NEFCO and the Ministry of Regional Development of Ukraine, with support from Sida and E5P.
Additional facts
DemoUkrainaDH is a funding initiative created by NEFCO and the Ukrainian Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Municipal Economy. The program is funded by NEFCO, the Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Sida) and the E5P Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership. In 2015 Dalsia (former Brunata) successfully completed another NEFCO energy efficiency project in Ukraine in Poltava.
Myrgorod is the administrative centre of the Myrgorod region in Poltava Oblast with a population of around 40 000 inhabitants. The project of Municipal Enterprise “Myrgorodteploenergo” aims to renovate a separate heating district located in the outskirts of the city.
